Excel Roller Shutters Install Shutter at Sunderland University

The team from Excel Roller Shutters recently had the pleasure of installing a brand new roller shutter in the Prospect Building at Sunderland University.

Used to separate and secure a cafe, the roller shutter had to provide a high level of security without being imposing or domineering. A tough balance to strike, but after speaking with the client about their needs we decided that a perforated steel roller shutter should fulfil their needs perfectly. Perforated steel offers a high level of security, but due to the construction also allows light to pass through and doesn’t restrict visibility, making it perfect for this setting.

At Excel we always prefer to take our own measurements when we can. By doing so we can ensure that the roller shutter is constructed to our standards and we can ensure a perfect fit every time.

After the client had decided on the roller shutter and a member of our team taken measurements all that was left was to construct the shutter. We manufacture nearly all our products in-house. Doing so allows us to have complete control over the quality of everything we manufacture, ensuring the highest possible service and security levels.

The roller shutter is constructed from 3” pre-galvanised perforated steel lath and 65mm guide channels. It comes complete with a manual override facility for use in the event of mains failure (by means of a winding handle) and a safety brake. All guide components are welded together for added security and the client opted to have it powder coated white.

They also opted for various optional extras, including:

• Rubber bottom seal (on bottom rail)
• Vertical Brush Strip (in guide channels)
• 4” Horizontal Brush Strip (under lintel)

Once constructed it was simply a case of returning to the campus to install the shutter. As we took the measurements ourselves installation was easy, and in no time the cafe was secure and the client satisfied.
